In fairness to Avidyne, every date I've been promised by an aviation manufacturer has been a complete fantasy. Garmin, as the 12,500 pound gorilla, can afford to develop in secret and announce when they're ready to ship. I'm not convinced that other companies could do that.

That being said, it doesn't mean I have to like it. Aspen promised me on multiple occasions that they would have a fully certified solution that allowed the removal of the backup AI. They have since all but abandoned that goal, and I had to modify my panel to make room for a separate backup unit that cost thousands of dollars... Grumble, grumble.
It's definitely not a way to win customer satisfaction surveys.
